Gateshead International Stadium Fantastic Facilities

Gateshead International Stadium

With an 11,800-person capacity, Gateshead International Stadium is the third-largest stadium in Tyne and Wear. Numerous athletic organisations call it home, notably Gateshead FC and Gateshead Harriers. Both the Gateshead Senators and the Gateshead Thunder once called it home.

Athletics, rugby, and football competitions, as well as other major national and international sporting events, have all taken place at the stadium and continue to do so. At the stadium, five world records have been set, including two by pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva and a tied 100-meter record set in 2006 by Asafa Powell.

It has served as the primary venue for important rock and pop performances over the years, showcasing stars like Bon Jovi, Tina Turner, Van Halen, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, and more.

In addition, Gateshead International Stadium is a component of GO Gateshead, a prominent gym, swimming pool, and workout class provider in the area.

The centre offers fantastic facilities, including:

  • Sports hall

The stadium's main use is as an athletics venue. An international level athletics track surrounds the playing surface of the stadium, which creates a bowl-like look.

With a seating capacity of 3,227, the Tyne & Wear Main Stand is a sizable covered all-seated stand on the west side. The stand features windscreens on either side and a rather steep slope. The viewing lines are excellent despite being some distance from the pitch. The Tyne & Wear Stand is a two-story building on one side that houses a sizable cafe/bar area as well as corporate and boardroom amenities.

The 4,044 capacity East Stand, another sizable bank of seats that is now covered, is located across from the Tyne & Wear Stand. Smaller, exposed-to-the-weather seating banks line the ground's two ends. Football games typically do not use these ends.
